Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.1 Farming Guide by POECurrency.com: Is Breach Now Better Than Abyss?

Just last week, following Patch 0.5.0 Return of the Ancients, the developers of Path of Exile 2 released the latest Patch 0.5.1, which includes some major changes. This patch is quite comprehensive.

In short, this update makes significant adjustments to Endgame gameplay: Breach gameplay has been greatly enhanced, while Abyss gameplay has been weakened; at the same time, a brand new Support Gem has been added to the game, providing a fresh approach to character building.

Next, POECurrency.com will explain the most important parts in detail, and explain the changes and their impact on players.

Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.1 Farming Guide by POECURRENCY Is Breach Now Better Than Abyss

Endgame Gameplay Changes

In Patch 0.5.1, Path of Exile 2’s Endgame gameplay – Atlas – has undergone significant modifications, primarily affecting Breach and Abyss gameplay.

Breach Enhancement

Breach gameplay had previously been mediocre, with players generally preferring Abyss, but this time the situation is different.

First, 24 new Passive Skills have been added to the top area of Atlas Passive Tree. These Passive Skills will have different effects in different areas.

For example, a certain Passive Skill might automatically activate when you’re in a swamp, while another might automatically activate when you’re in a desert.

POECurrency.com predicts that this means the game may develop a mainstream playstyle where “farming certain terrains yields the most profit.”

Second, the boss spawn mechanism has been optimized. In Patch 0.5.0 Return of the Ancients, triggering the final boss Vruun, Marshal of Xesht, in Breach was very difficult.

However, after Patch 0.5.1, once Unstable Breach becomes stable, rare monsters will spawn first, and Vruun will appear after all the rare monsters are cleared.

Third, the bug with Breach Atlas Passive Skill has been fixed. Tear Open Rift Passive Skill previously had a bug that prevented players from activating it. It has now been changed to a multi-choice mode, allowing you to freely choose to turn it on or off.

Fourth, the annoying knockback has been removed. Previously, a monster called Tidal Rune had an ability that emitted waves that knocked you back, often resulting in character death. This knockback effect has now been removed.

Abyss

Abyss gameplay was once a very popular playstyle in PoE 2, with countless players making a fortune through it. However, Patch 0.5.1 nerfed it:

First, Elite Abyss Monsters have been comprehensively nerfed. This not only means their health and damage dealt have been reduced, but also the loot and experience gained from defeating them have been reduced. While they are easier to kill, the overall player reward has decreased.

Second, the efficiency of farming currency and items has been reduced. Patch 0.5.1 has reduced the monster density of Abyss. In Patch 0.5.0 Return of the Ancients, Abyss was a popular farming spot due to its high monster density.

However, this strategy no longer works after Patch 0.5.1. Furthermore, with the reduced monster density, fewer players will be farming there, leading POECurrency.com to speculate that the price of unique items dropped in Abyss may rise.

If you want to skip the painful grind in Abyss, you’d probably want to go to the in-game store, but are held back by a lack of funds. Why not try to buy cheap and safe PoE 2 currency from POECurrency.com? The super-fast delivery speed here will save you a lot of endgame exploration time.

Spellcaster Class Buffs

Patch 0.5.1 provides a comprehensive buff to spellcaster classes. This means many spellcaster players will need to readjust their builds, which requiring a significant amount of POE2 currency. Here are the specific changes:

New Elemental Passive Skills

Forty new Elemental Passive Skills have been added to Sorceress, Witch, and Druid areas of Passive Skill Tree.

These Passive Skills not only directly benefit these three classes, but also allow other classes to indirectly use them through Anointing due to their proximity to Jewel Sockets.

Support Gems Changes

This is the most substantial buff to spellcaster classes. Previously, Frost, Lightning, and Fire Support Gems – such as Ice Bite I Support, Ice Bite II Support, and Innervate Support – could only be used to support offensive skills. Now, they can also support spell skills.

For players who prefer builds that focus on damage based on these attributes, this is a significant damage boost.

Furthermore, PoE 2 Patch 0.5.1 adds a Lineage Support Gem called Atziri’s Communion.

It has a unique effect: allowing you to replace Spirit with your maximum Life, thus unlocking Spirit-consuming abilities (excluding summoning abilities).

Normally, your Spirit cap is fixed and needs to be increased through gear or talents. Atziri’s Communion allows you to use Life instead of Spirit, effectively increasing your total Spirit cap.

This effect is invaluable for classes that rely heavily on Spirit. For example, consider classes that primarily focus on Evasion and Energy Shield.

Previously, these classes would ultimately lead to Chaos Inoculation, relying entirely on energy shields for survival. However, with Atziri’s Communion, you can choose not to follow Communion route and instead use Life to activate abilities.

Other Changes

First, Refutation build has been nerfed: In Patch 0.5.0 Return of the Ancients, Refutation defense could be stacked to almost 100% uptime, but in Patch 0.5.1, its Cooldown no longer regenerates during the buff’s duration, so this build may be obsolete.

Second, Conductive Runes’ Critical Strike Chance has been adjusted to 7%.

Third, Repulsion now has a base Critical Strike Chance of 6%.

This concludes POECurrency.com’s introduction and analysis of PoE 2 Patch 0.5.1. In short, the changes to Breach and Abyss playstyles mean players need to adjust their future strategies, while the enhancements to Spells class mean Spells players need to rebuild their builds.
